Emotional Freedom Techniques

(Please Note: EFT is a very flexible improvement tool that can be used for just about everything.  I am using my version of it here and have had extraordinary results and urge you to contact me for more.  The original version and complete training can be found at http://www.emofree.com )

EFT (emotional freedom techniques) is a breakthrough healing tool that uses tapping with one's fingers on a series of specific acupuncture points. By directly addressing the body's energy system this way, very rapid emotional healing can take place.

The results we achieve using EFT seem almost unbelievable, or miraculous, from the standpoint of traditional “talk” therapy. What might have taken years of work, can be accomplished in just a few sessions.

EFT has also proved effective for certain issues that have had no effective conventional treatment, problems such as PTSD, severe phobias, and even chronic pain conditions such as fibromyalgia.

One motto of EFT is “often works where nothing else has”. Another is “try it on everything”.

Gary Craig, the founder of EFT, has stated that “The cause of all negative emotions is a disruption in the body's energy system”. This is a radical departure from traditional psychology, which supposes that negative emotions are caused by particular thoughts and memories.

Traditional talk therapy “treats the thought”, by using the power of words and insight. This can take months or years, if it works at all. By addressing the disruption in the energy system associated with the thought, EFT is able to eliminate the negative emotions very quickly. Often in minutes. This can be a very startling experience!

How does this happen? We naturally think of memories as belonging to the past, but actually they can only be remembered and re-experienced in the present moment. Essentially we are accessing them in real time, within the energy system where they are stored, along with whatever emotional distress was originally associated with them.

This energy system, where the distress is stored, involves the energy meridians, which can be influenced through the acupuncture points. Tapping on these points literally smooths out the disruptions and the emotional content simply drains away. This “smoothing out” seems to be permanent. Once accomplished, the disruption does not return.

EFT does not depend on the placebo effect. There is no need to “believe” it will work. My most skeptical clients enjoy the same excellent results. It also makes no real difference how “intense” the distress has been, or how long someone has had the problem.

EFT is also a relatively painless therapy (I've had the same box of tissue for the past eight months!). It is totally unnecessary to re-live traumatic memories or delve deep into painful emotions to decrease their intensity and release their hold on your life. This is a VERY important benefit for those suffering from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, or any sort of debilitating trauma.

Another great feature of EFT involves the elimination of self-sabotaging and limiting beliefs. This can be a by-product of working with painful memories, or they can be pursued directly. What do I mean by “beliefs”?

We develop our “core beliefs” in two ways. By nature we interpret the events we experience. We might decide that the cruelty of a parent, for example, means that something is dreadfully wrong with us. Or that the world is not a safe place. Or that we should never sing, because that's what seemed to provoke the parent's anger.

Sometimes we are told these things directly by our parents or other authority figures. Once we accept these that we're clumsy, or mean, or lazy the pattern is set. Or we might ingest the idea that money is evil, or men are all pigs, or nothing comes easy in this world.

Once we adopt these beliefs they become the lenses through which we see and interpret future events. They tend to become self reinforcing. By subconsciously expecting bad things to happen we tend to attract them.

It can take years of traditional therapy to uncover and change these dysfunctional core beliefs. With EFT it can be done in a matter of hours, especially with the help of a skilled practitioner.

One of the benefits of EFT sessions is that you will learn how to do EFT on your own. It becomes a powerful self-help tool that can greatly accelerate progress. This also empowers you to help friends and family if you wish.

You can also learn EFT for free, by downloading Gary Craig's 80 page manual. This is how I got started! Beyond the manual he offers inexpensive dvd sets and a terrific newsletter packed with EFT success stories and tips. Highly recommended.
